What is Lindy Hop?
Lindy Hop is the original form of swing dancing that began on the streets of Harlem in the 1920s-1940s. It is characterized by 8-count moves and can be mixed with 6-count (East Coast) moves. The foundational moves are the Swingout and the Lindy Circle.
What is Balboa (Bal)?

Balboa is a style of swing dancing that is characterized by a close, chest-to-chest body positioning. It developed in the crowded ballrooms Southern California in the 1920s and 1930s. Akin to traditional ballroom dances, Balboa is a classy partnered dance that is often paired with faster tempo music, although it can be danced to slower tempos, too. When coupled with moves that break away from the partner into open position, Balboa becomes Bal-Swing.
Although not required, men dress up a bit and women wear skirts and heels at many Balboa events.
